Kaleigh's Picks for the New Year:
Welcome 2016! I've always loved New Years for the fresh start feeling it brings, which for me also means it's time to get organized, re-think things from a new perspective, and reflect on what I want from the next year. It's an optimistic time if you embrace it. I do, however, tend to find New Years resolutions a little too ambitious, and I'd rather take things one piece at a time. So, here are some suggestions for kicking off 2016 on a fresh note!
Keeping a journal - I was very committed to keeping a journal from age 12 until about age 20, and I still have them all, which is great fun to look back on. As adulthood creeps in though, it can be hard to find the time to write in a journal on a daily basis. I still try to do some writing each week, and I was very inspired by Moorea Seal's 52 Lists Project. I heard about this awhile ago and as an avid list-maker I thought it was great. I've just gotten myself the journal so I can do it this year, but you can also download about half of her list ideas from her website, or create your own. This is a great way to spend a little focused time on yourself each week, and I find reflection can bring new ideas and creativity!
Planning - As I've already mentioned, I'm a list maker by nature. I know this isn't everyone's way of getting organized but I find it extremely helpful, especially with a busy life. This blog post has some helpful suggestions for organizing at home, and great free downloadable planning templates. Sometimes just having a nicely designed format can trick my brain into a productive state and help me get moving. Also the feeling of checking things off a list once they are done is fantastic, am I right?
Style - This article gives some great tips for thinking about and refining your personal style. It is just one of many articles out there that discuss what personal style means and how to define yours. I find this process to be both creatively inspiring and also a good way of organizing your closet so that getting dressed each day is a little easier. And fun too!
Celebrating - Of course New Years wouldn't be complete without some celebrations! Here is a recipe for a festive drink, perfect for NYE parties. And as an (almost) New Years baby, I'll be drinking this one on my birthday on January 2, join me!
