My name is Carrie Allison, I am a NSCAD graduate currently living in Lunenburg and participating in the Lunenburg NSCAD Community Residency. I moved to Lunenburg in June 2014 and was fortunate to find a part time job working weekends at Luvly in Lunenburg.
I had the incredible opportunity to create a window display installation/sculpture for one of Luvly in Lunenburg's front windows. I wanted to share with you how I went about planning, creating and finally installing this sculptural piece.
The Luvly in Lunenburg window displays have always had a natural element to them, either made from natural materials or a representation of a natural material (branches, leaves, flowers, etc.). I wanted to create something that followed this theme. My idea was to create a tree that came from the building and protruded out into the street, or at least conveyed that idea.
The installation I created is made from wood doweling and paper. I have always loved working with these two materials. I like that I am able to work with them individually, no heavy or electrical machinery required, and I am familliar with them and how they react to being manipulated.
