BLOG: Skip the Google 'translate' button and let the photos on this beautiful design blog speak for themselves. Finnish blogger Naku has an eye for the most beautiful arrangements of natural and graphic elements. Feast your eyes.
EAT: I promise this salad will be the hit of your next dinner party or potluck. The Best Lentil Salad, Ever is brought to you by Sarah B of My New Roots, a fantastic healthy eating blog. Her recipes taste great, and they look great too! The other good news? The French Du Puy lentils this recipe calls for are available at our local Bridgewater Bulk Barn, and they're organic too.
GROW: I've been intrigued by the idea of vertical gardening for some time now but have yet to try. Here's a great tutorial for an ornamental herb garden planted with lots of beautiful succulents. Next season I'm hoping to create a vertical herb garden in our backyard, like this one. Vertical basil! Who knew.
ART: The late Alex Colville lived, taught and painted in my hometown for many years. We even have a museum dedicated to his work that is housed in the building that was at one time his home. His art is considered quintessentially Canadian, and his style is unmistakeable. One of my favourite paintings of his is To Prince Edward Island as it reminds me of the pre-fixed link days of my childhood. This painting, and his work were given a nod in Moonrise Kingdom, Wes Anderson's latest film, and one which I've been wanting to see for some time.
ART: I met Laura Dawe while attending university in Halifax. She was studying history at Dalhousie and had this really cool tiny plastic figurine garden in front of her house. Dawe is a wonderfully talented painter, director, and writer. Above is my favourite painting by her- I love how the very classical figure is holding a Blackberry. Be sure to visit her website and take a look at her amazing paintings.
PRINTABLES: I came across this amazing Camp Letter Printable while reading Poppytalk, one of my favourite blogs. If your kids are heading to summer camp, send them off with a little package containing this printable, envelopes and stamps so they can let you know how they are doing. I love the idea behind this printable, and really, what's better than pressure free snail-mail?
DESIGN: Although I don't own a closet full of shoes I still consider myself a shoe addict. I spend so much time on the internet admiring heels, dreaming up incredible events I could be out at, dancing tall. Currently my daily dose of heel candy comes from Sophia Webster's website. Her shoe designs are so playful and feminine. I am especially a fan of her Flamingo Vinyl Lace-Up Booties. If you enjoy designs by Betsey Johnston chances are you will love Sophia Webster.
DRINK: I have been enjoying The Grape Grinder - a fabulous bottle of wine from South Africa. This pinotage is dark with chocolate and espresso undertones, and has a tiny bit of a smoky taste. Such a delicious treat after a long day at the beach. To find the nearest bottle, check out the NSLC website.
MAKE: A Pair & A Spare always has fabulous DIY projects. This week is no exception. I am so in love with this tutorial on how to make a rope basket. A simple rainy day project, and a great gifting idea.
